Radon gas mitigation services
Radon gas mitigation
A mitigation system is the best way to reduce excessive radon concentrations in a building.
Active soil depressurization is the most effective mitigation technique. The most common method for a building with a concrete slab on a subbase of gravel involves installing a pipe crossing the slab in the basement and attaching a fan to it to evacuate the radon outside.
For a crawl space the possible techniques vary depending on the presence or not of compacted earth or a concrete slab with or without a gravel subbase, but essentially the corrective involves a negative pressure system. A secondary benefit when treating a crawl space for radon is to provide an effective solution to moisture problems that may be affecting the space, thereby improving the health of the building and its occupants.
Deployment
Deployment
Protocol for Deployment and Recovery of Radon Detector:
- Open the cover of the tube containing the radon detector.
- Take out the explanatory sheet containing the details of the use of the detector.
- Note the detector deployment time on the explanatory sheet.
- Unscrew the cap or pull the tab of the radon detector without removing it from the tube.
- Place the detector at the appropriate level according to the instructions provided.
- At the end of the detector deployment time, screw the cap or push the detector tab towards the inside of the tube.
- Record the date and time the detector was recovered on the information sheet.
- Place the explanatory sheet in the tube containing the detector.
- Close the lid tightly.
It is important to follow these steps precisely to ensure reliable radon measurement results.

Where to place the radon detector
Where to place the radon detector
To obtain accurate and reliable measurements, carefully follow the steps below to deploy the radon detector in the right location:
- Choosing the ideal location
Place the detector in a frequently used room, such as a bedroom or living room. Install it in the breathing air zone, at a height of between 0.8 m and 2 m from the floor , avoiding sticking it to the walls. Maintain a distance of at least 50 cm from the ceiling , 40 cm from interior walls , and 50 cm from exterior walls . - Stable positioning
Place the detector on a flat, stable surface, such as a table or dresser. Make sure it cannot be moved or knocked over during the measurement. - Avoid disruptions
Place the detector away from heat sources (such as radiators or fireplaces), electronic devices (TV, radio, router) or air vents or ventilation. This will prevent any external influences that could distort the measurements. - Maintaining the natural environment
Once the detector is positioned, do not change your lifestyle or the conditions in the room. Avoid moving the detector or frequently opening nearby windows during the test.
By following these recommendations, you will obtain reliable and representative results of the radon level in your home.
