Radon and Health Canada: Recommended Threshold and Test

"Radon Santé Canada" has about 110 searches per month. The site ranks around 20th place. Health Canada recommends measuring radon in the home and taking action when the concentration exceeds 200 Bq/m³.

The Test They Prefer

The recommendation is for a long-term measurement, about three months, under normal living conditions, on the lowest occupied floor. The 91-day test matches this duration. The 4-day test is used for quicker screening, not to replace the long-term measurement. Both are priced at $74.72 taxes included.

200 Bq/m³, Not 100

Health Canada's intervention threshold is 200 Bq/m³. The WHO refers to 100 Bq/m³ as a reference. Mitigation work is not guaranteed to reduce levels below 100 in all buildings. Follow-up conditions are detailed in the quote. More information on these two figures is available in what radon level is acceptable.

Above 200 Bq/m³, the standard installation costs $2,799.99 + taxes, with the price confirmed before work begins.
