How does radon kill?

  • Radon does not cause:
  • skin itching
  • chronic cough
  • emphysema
  • asthma
  • Radon and Radon Decay Products (RDPs) are known human carcinogens.
  • The energy absorbed in the human body due to radiation exposure is called the absorbed dose. The absorbed dose, especially that carried by alpha particles from RDPs, can damage living tissue, particularly the lungs (cf.: Health Canada).
  • The total effective dose carried comes from 97% of RDPs (Polonium 218 and Lead 214) and approximately 3% from radon. Note that RDPs produced by radon are solids.
